TROUBLESHOOTING
Typically
when a QuizMachine™ fails to function, the cause is either a power adapter or a
cable that has worn out and/or developed a short.
Problem with TIES:
Ties
can occur if contestants “buzz in” within 2 milliseconds of each other and
should be rare. If they happen more
frequently:
a)
make sure all hands are clear of response buttons and the reset button while
questions are read. The lockout feature
will not operate properly if the reset button and response buttons are
depressed simultaneously.
b)
Check for a faulty cable. (see below)
Identify a faulty cable in
the following manner:
a)
Plug the power adapter into the base station and the other end into a wall
outlet. Make sure that no cables or
contestant stations are hooked up at this point.
b)
Choose one cable and plug it into to the base station. Plug the other end of the cable into a
contestant station. Press the response
button to verify light and sound. Wiggle
the cable to see if there is an intermittent short. Look for interruptions in the light or sound.
Reset the system by pressing the button on the base station.
c)
Continue hooking up cables and contestant stations one at a time, pressing the response button and wiggling the cable each
time to verify a connection.
d)
If at any point you do not get a response from the contestant station or a
malfunction appears, swap that cable with one you know does work and repeat the
test.
e)
Discard any cables that don’t work and use replacement cables. (Replacement cables can be purchased by
calling our toll-free number or should be available at most any electronics
retailer. These are RCA-type stereo patch cables.)
Identify a faulty power
adapter:
a)
Plug the power adapter into the base station and the other end into a wall
outlet. Make sure that no cables or
contestant stations are hooked up to the base station.
b)
Depress the red reset button on the top of the base station several times. You should hear a clicking sound inside the
base station each time the button is depressed.
If you do not hear a “Click, Click” each time you depress and let up on
the reset button, NO POWER is getting to the base station. It can then be assumed the power adapter is
no longer working. Replacement power
adapter should be 12 Volts, 500 mA, center negative polarity.
Lights are out:
The
bulbs we use should last many, many years. When one goes out, send it in for
replacement since we’ve sealed it within an adhesive. We charge $5 to change out a light if there
has been damage. Otherwise, replacement is free under lifetime warranty.
